Day 13/14

Apologies for the lack of blog yesterday, after a late night the boys decided it would be a higher quality blog if it were written in a rested stated of mind, enjoy!

Friday started with the usual yellow curry, rice and eggs before travelling by bus to Boystown, an hour away. We took a tour of the trade school, viewing the workshops where the boys learn 3 different trades, electrical, welding and lathe. We were then shown the boys cottages where they sleep and relax in their spare time. We then made the trip back to RTU with many of us engaged in the Fast & Furious 8 movie, however to our disappointment the movie was muted. In the afternoon the boys were well rested before we went to a community mass at another hostel at 5:30 to celebrate Father Anthony’s 25th year Jubilee at RTU. The boys handled themselves well, sitting through a 3 hours mass and speeches all in the local language Tamil despite being tired from staying up to receive their ATARs at 1:30 in the morning that day. Dinner proceeded with the boys going full Indian ditching the knife and forks as well as plates for their right hand and banana leaves. Celebrations continued with many engaging in dance and conversation with the RTU community. Sam (Schammy) Beasley got up to his usual antiques with the inner selfie inside him emerging once again with many girls being big fans. Jacko (Mr St Bede’s) Lee was a big hit once again with the love of his life angel, agreeing to discuss their feelings for each other the next morning. Rumours had emerged that Jacko was inches away from joining the newly wed train. Due to late return to the hostel there was no reflection giving the boys a chance to catch up on some much needed Z’s from the day it had been.

Saturday started with the usual breakfast as previous days. Today was the last time the boys were to work on the houses with Group’s 1 and 2 adding the final touches on their house whipping out the paint and brushes giving the house some needed colour, with white Dulux paint being the fan favourite due to it being on special at the local Bunnings warehouse. It was shirts off Saturday giving the boys some much needed tan and providing some eye candy for locals. The boys enjoyed seeing what the houses had become bringing smiles to many. Group’s 3 and 4 (the plebs) finished digging the septic tank following up with some much needed soft drink for their hard work.  Zo’s group along with Caleb (big hardworking youth minster) Bainbridge had their chance to teach in the classroom early in the session. The boys rested up with Group’s 3 and 4 going back to work to put their final touches on the houses. Josh (nibbles) Gibbons and Julian (Hulk) Azzolini went to the local barber to receive a clean shave while choosing to keep their staches. Our tailored shirts arrived with the group agreeing to wear them to another hostel we had chosen to visit. The boys were looking the goods as we journeyed 10km by bus to the hostel. We had a good time engaging with the children who were very excited to see us. Many of us put our dancing shoes on as we showed the local kids how it’s done when it comes to muzzing to Matty Lincoln’s thrilling masterpiece Melbourne Sound. Many more selfies were taken with Sam (Schammy) Beasley showing why he is the selfie king. The boys all up had a grouse time with the kids at the hostel before departing back to our own hostel. During the journey a local bus had broken down with the boys showing their Lasallian spirit and muscles pushing the bus into a bush but well clear of the road making sure road users were safe once again. Reflection was about the many highlights of the last 2 days of the trip with all the boys sharing amazing stories in their own right. Many are eager for the opening ceremony for the houses on Monday.
